KT is working to strengthen its groundwork for its AI (Artificial Intelligence) research by introducing supercomputers and others and has materialized its plan to create an ‘AI ecosystem’ by introducing its research infrastructures to outside world. It is going to start ‘AI two-track’ where laboratories develop technologies while business groups sell these technologies.
KT opened the door of ‘AI Tech Center’ at its KT Institute of Convergence Technology on the 6th and introduced supercomputer ‘GPU computing cluster’.
Supercomputing ability of this device, which is composed of 720,000 graphic GPU cores that are specialized in calculation abilities, is top five in South Korea.
Because it can quickly process enormous amount of data, it is expected that analytical skills of Big Data will improve significantly. It is also expected that AI Deep Learning ability will also make progress over time.
KT is planning to help to increase AI development abilities so that outside businesses can use this device and it is also going to introduce SDK (Software Development Kit) that can help develop AI speaker called GiGa Genie. When new functions that are developed by its partners pass certain standards, KT is going to introduce them into GiGa Genie. This will likely increase number of functions that can be done by GiGa Genie. It is a model where large corporations and small and medium companies can coexist together.
By opening the door of AI Tech Center followed by establishment of GiGa Genie business group in May, KT has started two-track strategy of ‘development of technologies and commercialization’. It will be able to maximize synergy as these two groups that have expertise in their respective areas join forces.
Along with an internet-only bank called K Bank, GiGa Genie business group is planning to introduce ‘Cough Banking’, which allows one to make quick wire transfer or check his or her account through his or her voice in September.
Number of members of GiGa Genie surpassed 100,000 at the end of last month which is 5 months removed from release date of GiGa Genie.
“We are going to develop AI Tech Center as the main base for AI services and research.” said Director Kim Jin-han of KT Institute of Convergence Technology’s AI Tech Center. “We are going to accelerate intellectualization of GiGa Genie and contribute in intellectualizing our platform businesses.”
