SK Telecom has practically finalized its decision to call 5G mobile network brand as ‘Quantum’.
SK Telecom has also decided to call future innovative services that will be converged with 5G as ‘Quantum’ as well. It is predicted that 5G service that is going to be commercialized by SK Telecom is going to be called as ‘Quantum 5G’ and SK Telecom is going to use this brand to help people realize that it is SK Telecom’s 5G service.
SK Telecom has decided to use a brand called Quantum for 5G service that it is going to introduce in the future and future converged services such as connected cars. Not only does Quantum represent ‘great launch’ just like the word quantum jump but it also expresses capacity and speed of quantum, which is the smallest unit in physics, that are close to infinite. Its intention is to create values that are close to infinite and surpass current telecommunication as 5G generation approaches.
In the past, SK Telecom used ‘Band LTE’ and ‘Live T’ and ‘3G Plus’ for 4G LTE service and 3G service respectively. Just like this, SK Telecom’s 5G service is going to be called as Quantum 5G and SK Telecom is going to utilize it as a brand so that people realize it is SK Telecom’s 5G service.
Quantum will be used as a brand that will represent converged services that are going to be introduced by SK Telecom. Service brands such as hologram, VR (Virtual Reality), and AR (Augmented Reality) are all services that will be converged with SK Telecom’s 5G service and will use Quantum 5G.
A reason why SK Telecom has finalized on a brand before it commercializes 5G service in 2020 is because it wants to imprint a thought of ‘5G=SK Telecom’ into people even during early stages of commercialization.
“Not only does quantum express characteristics of 5G but it also can be seen as a keyword and expression of SK Telecom’s will to launch its future technologies.” said a representative for SK Telecom. “Since we have some time before commercializing 5G, we are going to continuously think about detailed strategies.”
